rorriM

Mixed media

190 x 120 x 30 cm

The title rorriM is “mirror” spelled in the reverse. A possible misreading of the word forces the viewer to pause and ponder on what this dyslexia could mean. The work itself presents a nexus of different degrees of order and logic in all manner of oddities occupying the cluttered shelves. The artist does not proffer any parameters to engage with his work, save the simple yet earnest advice to slow down, be present in the moment, and move on. Nyan Soe likens this to the process of growing as an artist, to take stock of one’s position in life and to ultimately confront the greater concepts of war, peace and social justice in the world.

“I like to stand in front of the work and listen to the voice from it.
There are too many things on the shelves.
It is too noisy! I agree!
But that is why I need to calm down and listen.
Every time I look at them, I always found something that will draw my attention to it.
There are bad things, good things, funny toy and failed works. It is fine!
Being present at the moment, slow down and move on!
